UN ready to increase aid to India: Amore

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says that the international community is ready to extend its aid to India. “Now that India is facing the dreaded form of the epidemic, the entire UN family stands with the people of India,” he said. Reacting to the statement of Guterres, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Trimurti said that India is grateful to the United Nations for its support and emotional solidarity. The United Nations team in India is working closely with the local administration under the leadership of the Permanent Coordinator. Medical equipment and other supplies are being provided. The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF are also helping procure equipment and supplies. WHO is helping to build mobile hospitals and set up laboratories. Around 2600 WHO field officers have been deployed to assist the administration. -PTI
