New Delhi: Asian silver medalist Deepak Kumar (52 kg) beat Olympic and world champion Shakhobidin Zirovi (VK) on Friday at the 72nd Stranja Memorial boxing tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Deepak (Deepak Kumar) scored the most memorable victory of his career and beat his much stronger Joirov 4-1 who beat India’s Amit Panghal to claim the 2019 World Championship title.

Zirov is also the silver medalist of the Asian Games and Championships.
Deepak Kumar beat Darislav Vasilev of Bulgaria 5-0 on Thursday and qualified for the last four.
India came back without a medal in the women’s category
Former world junior champions Jyoti Goolia (51 kg) and Bhagyavati Kachari (75 kg), however, lost in the women’s category.
India’s challenge in the women’s category ended without a medal. At the same time, Manjeet Singh (over 91 kg) in men also lost.

Goolia, who beat two-time world champion Nazim Kaizbe in the quarter-finals, was beaten 5-0 by LaCramiara Perizoch of Romania. Kachari also lost to Naomi Graham of America by the same margin. Manjeet was beaten by Gürgen Hovhannisyan of Armenia.
Naveen Bura (69 kg) reached the semi-finals, beating Brazilian Iravio Edson in the quarter-finals, where he will face Asian Games gold medalist Bobo-Usmon Baturov.
India had won three medals (one silver and two bronze) in the previous stage of this tournament.
