The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, has called on India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue “peacefully”. Recalling the 1972 Simla Agreement between the two countries, he said he supported negotiations and diplomacy. Speaking to the media here, he said that the UN’s stand on Jammu and Kashmir was determined by the United Nations Charter and the recommendations of the Security Council were being implemented. “I also recall the 1972 Simla Agreement between India and Pakistan stating that the Turkish diplomat and politician stated that the final status of Jammu and Kashmir would be determined peacefully as per the United Nations Charter.”
