New Delhi: The Indian cricket team beat England by 66 points in the first ODI. Before the second game, Team India suffered two big setbacks. In fact, in the first game, the team’s lead opener Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer were injured and came off the floor. Rohit is now out of Game 2, while Iyer is out of this whole series.
Rohit injured at bat
Rohit Sharma was injured in the first ODI against England. In fact, a fast paced bullet from Mark Wood hit Rohit’s elbow, after which Rohit Sharma appeared in pain and the medical staff had to come to the ground. After that, Rohit didn’t even enter the pitch to field and Suryakumar Yadav replaced him. Rohit Sharma will no longer play in the second game. A BCCI source told PTI: “Even Rohit Sharma, an experienced opener, will not be in the next game.”
Shreyas was injured while lining up
Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, will no longer be able to star in the series due to a shoulder ligament. Not only that, doubts have also been raised about Iyer’s play in the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The incident took place in the eighth inning for England, when Shreyas Iyer fended off a quick pitcher Shardul Thakur’s attempt to block a shot from Johnny Bairstow. BCCI said: “ Shreyas Iyer’s shoulder bone slipped as he lined up the eighth. They were taken for a scan.
Let me tell you, Iyer was scheduled to captain the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from April 9. Shreyas led the Delhi Capitals to the final last year. Now they can take at least six weeks to recover from their injury and if surgery needs to be done it can take longer.
Who will run Delhi?
In the absence of Irey (Shreyas Iyer), the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals could be entrusted to Rishabh Pant, Australian Steve Smith or senior off-spinner R Ashwin.
