Los Angeles, 27 May

A 36-year-old Sikh man of Indian origin is among the eight people killed in a shootout on a railroad in the US state of California. Mercury News reported that the slain Indian Sikh has been identified as Tapatejdeep Singh. Raised in Union City, California, Tapatejdip has a wife, a three-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter. The Sikh community in the San Francisco Bay Area described Tapatejadeep Singh as a “helpful and caring person”. Fellow staff of the Valley Transport Authority (VTA) described Singh as a hero and said that he went out of the room to rescue others, where some of his other co-workers were hiding. According to police, the attacker later shot himself as well. Singh has been a light rail operator in the VTA for the last nine years.
