Chennai: The richest T20 cricket league in the world, ahead of the 2021 IPL season, the player auction (Auction) was held in Chennai in which players narrowly escaped being unsold. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that last chance bets have opened up the fortunes of these players and that they will have a chance to be part of the 2021 IPL.
Many big names were sold for very high prices while many didn’t even find a buyer. Not only that, some players have returned to IPL after years, while some domestic players have also been overtaken by franchisees. Let’s take a look at the 5 cricketers that were left unsold in the IPL 2021 auction:
1. Cheteshwar Pujara
For test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara, being selected at auction this season was nothing short of a godsend. Pujara returned to IPL after 7 years. The last time Pujara played for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL was in 2014. Every year thereafter he was unsold at auction. This time, for the IPL season 2021, Cheteshwar Pujara (Cheteshwar Pujara) has been purchased by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at its base price. The base price of Pujara was 50 lakh rupees.
2. Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav has been fighting bad form for a long time. Kedar Jadhav also dropped out of Team India due to a continued flop. Based on the form, the base price of Kedar Jadhav (2 crore) was slightly higher, but Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Kedar Jadhav for its base price of 2 crore. Kedar Jadhav thus narrowly escaped being unsold during the 2021 season.
3. Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh, 40, Indian, was last added by Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL Auction 2021. The Kolkata Knight Riders in the last round of the IPL 2021 auction added their base price to their squad for the price of 2 crores. Harbhajan Singh played in the IPL for Mumbai Indians for 9 years (2008-2017). Harbhajan Singh went on to play the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2019.
4. Karun Nair
Indian drummer Karun Nair was also at risk of being unsold in this auction. Karun Nair was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for his base price of 50 lakhs. Karun Nair was part of Kings XI Punjab for the past three seasons, but his performance was nothing special. The Punjab released it this year, after which Kolkata Knight Riders bought it for 50 lakhs.
5. Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla, a 32-year-old Indian spinner, was bought by Indians in Mumbai for 2.40 crore rupees for this IPL season. The base price of Piyush Chawla was 50 lakh rupees. Chawla played for the Chennai Super Kings last season. Chennai, however, released Chawla after her regular performance.
