New Delhi: The Cricket Control Council of India (BCCI) is famous around the world for its fitness protocols. Once again, a BCCI fitness test is under discussion. Before the T20 series of 5 matches against England, the BCCI kept a special test of a two kilometer race and it emerged that 6 players including Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan could not pass this test.
What is a new fitness test?
The BCCI will also perform a new 2km test with the Yo-Yo test ahead of the limited series against England and the upcoming T20 World Cup. There will be a 2 kilometer run in this test, which batsmen, spinners and wicket keepers will need to complete in 8 minutes and 30 seconds. While fast bowlers must complete this race in 8 minutes and 15 seconds.
Samson, Kishan and four players failed on the first try
A source told The Times of India that Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tewatia, Siddharth Kaul and Jaydev Unadkat failed in the first attempt of this test by BCCI. However, this is a new way to test fitness, so players will have another chance on a new date. If a player fails for the second time, his sheet may be cut from the series against England. This test is taken at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.
The players are already out because they did not pass the test
The rules of the BCCI fitness test are very strict. BCCI has already done yo-yo tests on players. Ambati Rayudu, Sanju Samson and Mohammed Shami did not have a fitness test before the limited series on a tour of England in 2018, after which they were excluded from the series.
